14. Best Urban/Rural Garden
This award is for the best individual garden in an urban, rural or coastal setting. The garden can be large or small, it can be around a large or small house. However, it will have inspirational design with exceptional creativity, innovation and build quality.
15. Best Sustainable Garden/Landscape
The winner will have created a sustainable garden or landscape using the very best practice and ecologically sound technologies and methods. Judges will be looking for innovations such as living roofs and walls, water harvesting and management, water permeable hard landscaping, SUDS and a considered plan to increase biodiversity.
16. Best Renovation Project or Restored Garden/Landscape
Renovation – This will be a garden or landscape created around a completely renovated individual home, listed or converted building, historic or derelict property.
Restoration – This must be a significantly restored derelict, neglected, listed or historic garden or landscape around a newly built or renovated individual home or development. Before and after images of both the property and the garden will be required.
17. Best Roof/Terrace/Penthouse Garden
A significant number of new homes built today are apartments, so we are looking for innovative and creative options for this type of outdoor space.
18. Best Communal Garden
This award is for the designer or architect creating the most exceptional and inspiring communal outdoor living environment in an urban or rural setting.
19. Best Memory Garden
A new category introduced in 2011 in an area that is in its infancy in this country – gardens specifically designed for people suffering from dementia. It may be a relatively new concept but it is one that is getting increasingly important in terms of specialisation and creativity. Dementia patients respond very well to stimulating gardens and outdoor space but they have a particular need to feel safe and secure and the garden to be therapeutic, memory stimulating and sensory in its design and planting.
20. Best Landscaped Urban Development
This will be attractive and functional outdoor space and a fine example of stimulating and inspiring design in a modern urban apartment or housing setting. Before and after images are required.
21. Best Landscaped Retirement Development
A landscape created for a volume, luxury or individual specialist retirement developer. It will be an exceptional, inspiring and appropriately functional outdoor space designed specifically for this important and growing market sector.
21a. Best Garden/Landscape - Overseas Development
This is an opportunity to show how an overseas location with a different climate and topography can offer exciting options such as italian formal, mediterranean, desert or tropical gardens gardens and landcapes.
22. Garden Designer of the Year
This award will go to the designer who has demonstrated a consistently high level of design and build quality over a range of projects. Only the very best examples of innovative and inspiring outdoor living space will win this prestigious award.
23. Landscape Architect of the Year
This award will be presented to the architect or practice that have created the most inspiring examples of best practice in housing landscape across a range of clients, budgets, projects and briefs.
Garden Designers & Landscape Architects must submit evidence from at least three new home projects to support their entry in categories 9 & 10 Garden Designer of the Year & Landscape Architect of the Year. No entry fee is required for the Garden Designer of the Year or Landscape Architect of the Year categories, but all entries in these categories must be accompanied by at least one entry in another category.
